A tragic accident (WL 31)
We took some rest after our night sail to Gran Canaria. Our first port was Pasito Blanco. A small harbour close to Maspalomas. Not much around, except a nice sandy beach, we took advantage on. It happend that collegues of Michael were staying close to us, what a nice coinsistance! We invited them on board to show them around and have a short trip along the coast. They agreed and we were setting sails for a short daytrip.
It was quite breezy outside, so after some sporty sailing we returned close to the beach and put our anchor out. Suddenly a scream from up above! We did not notice what happend. Next to us is the big golf course of Maspalomas. High above they have the green where the fancy people are playing. We knew instantly that something bad happend. One other sailor made the dinghy ready to go to the shore, while another man descended from the golf course. After some time we learned the tragic story. A dog fell off the cliffs. It ran free without a leash and did not notice the dangerous situation. It was dead and lying at the shore.
The owner of the dog and the man with the dinghy brought the poor dead dog back to the port. Tragic ending of a very nice sailing and swimming day!
We still had some time before our reservation in Puerto de Mogan (where we will meet friends for Easter holidays), so we took the bus to visit Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. We had nice stroll in the city center where we found those dog statues. This week was all about dogs, Tietzi does not care, she is chilling in the boat anyways!
