Fuerteventura, we are not sure… (WL 30)
It was about time to say good bye to Lanzarote. We will miss you but we also have to move on, we really want to explore all of the Canary Islands. Getting from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura is a nice day trip, not of any struggle. We arrived at Puerto del Rosario to spend a night there.
Now I am very honest with you. We are not sure about Fuerteventura. We have never been long to this island, but spend some time flying over (it used to be a hub for our flights from Lanzarote to Vienna) or we were in Correlejo for a daytrip. Lots of sand, dunes, beaches and a lot of nothing. There are many people out there that love Fuerteventura, we do not want to offend you, we simply haven’t found the place we really like.
This time we wanted to try a little harder although we had a strict timetable. Friends are planning to come over to Gran Canaria for Easter holidays, so we have to meet a deadline (no good idea while sailing, though :))
In fact we only spend one night at each harbour while day sailing from one spot to the other. Our daughter managed to never leave Hakuna Matata and never visit the island, our son once emptied the trash cans and had to step foot on land. There was simply not much to do along the coastline.
Michael, Ronja and me enjoyed walking the avenidas de playa. We got movement, fresh air and new surrounding. But we are sill not sure with Fuerteventura. Maybe you have different experiences? Maybe you love the island? We are happy to hear about your favorite spots, drop us a comment.
While docking in Gran Tarachal we had a big fight. The wind was blowing hard and the manoveur was difficult. Many people were trying to „help“ us which made it even worse. One person took the wrong lines and we almost had to do everything again. To be honest with you, I lost my temper and so did Michael. We ended up screaming on one another while the poor Capitania guy was standing next to us waiting for the situation to calm down. He was just there for check-in. Finally we ended our scene and handed over our passports. Shit happens. Get used to it!
Have I already introduced „Farni“ to you? We rescued the plant from Lanzarote trash bins and now he was thriving on our boat. The fern even did not mind carrying our Easter eggs!
Oh yes Easter was just around the corner! So we started to decorate eggs. Of course we used Maritim elements such as pirates, dolphins or water bubbles. That was such a nice work together with the kids.
By the end of the week we left Fuerteventura behind and started our journey to Gran Canaria. We decided to do a night sailing which was a bit rough in the end. Welcome to Pasito Blanco.
